Introduction

■ Why are we conducting this research now?

LAND FES has been developing inclusive dance practices in Japan.
Through this work, we have gained many insights and developed various approaches.
However, these methods have not yet been fully organised or articulated.
For this reason, we felt it was important to learn from practices overseas.

■ Why the UK?

The UK has a long history of inclusive dance practice.
There are systems in place where disabled people take central roles.
The environments that support these activities have also been carefully designed.
This research aims to learn from these approaches and
explore how they can be applied in different contexts.

■ Why this matters in Japan

Inclusive dance is also growing in Japan.
However, there are still challenges in sustaining activities,
developing people, and creating artistic work.
In addition, approaches where disabled people take leading roles
are not yet widely shared.
Through this research, we aim to provide useful insights
for practitioners and organisers working in Japan.
